TogalMCP: Your Favorite AI Tool, Now Connected to Your Takeoff Software

Every estimating team works a little differently. Your bid sheet has its own unique columns. Your classifications follow your own naming conventions. Your folders follow how your PMs think. Yes, AI-assisted construction takeoff software from Togal.AI accelerates your process, but no interface can anticipate every shop’s unique workflow.

Thankfully, TogalMCP closes that gap by connecting Togal.AI to the AI tools you already use — like Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT, or Gemini — so you can run Togal.AI with plain-language prompts and shape it around the way your team actually works!

We discussed TogalMCP during our monthly Togal20 live webinar. You can catch the recording here:

Just note that TogalMCP is available only to Togal.AI customers. So, if you aren’t already using the best construction takeoff software in the Milky Way, then you should make the switch to take advantage of TogalMCP in your estimating department.

What Is an MCP, Anyway?

MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. Think of the universal adapter you pack for international travel. Your plug stays the same; the adapter lets it fit any outlet.

TogalMCP is that adapter. Togal.AI is the plug, and your AI tool of choice is the outlet. Once connected, your AI assistant can work inside your Togal.AI account on your behalf: Creating projects, organizing files, building classifications, and pulling quantities.

You still decide what happens. The AI just does what you need inside Togal, on your behalf.

Three Examples of TogalMCP at Work

During our Togal20 webinar, we covered the following use cases for TogalMCP:

1. Build classifications from a legend. Screenshot a legend from your plan set, hand it to your AI assistant, and ask it to create those classifications in a specific project.

During a Togal20 webinar demo, it asked clarifying questions (linear or count? how should two pendant fixture types be named?), then created every classification and sorted them into trade folders. Set your scale and start your takeoff.

2. Export quantities into your own bid sheet. Instead of exporting to Excel and retyping numbers, show your AI assistant your estimate template once. Then ask it to pull your latest takeoff data into it. Quantities land in the right rows, matched to your cost codes.

3. Build your own tools on top of Togal.AI. Mike Seni (Head of Customer Success), has no coding background. Zooming in and out to click points strained his eyes, so he described the problem to Claude and worked back and forth until he had a Chrome extension that adds a magnifying glass to Togal.AI.

Now he does takeoff from a zoomed-out view!

We Haven't Found Every TogalMCP Use Case Yet, and That's the Point

Nobody has mapped every use for AI, and the same goes for TogalMCP. It’s all about experimentation and discovery.

You know your bottlenecks better than anyone. The estimators, project managers, and preconstruction teams closest to the work will find solutions we haven't imagined, and we want to see them!

Share what you build, ask questions, and swap prompts with other Togal.AI users on our Reddit community.

How to Connect TogalMCP to Your AI or LLM

Setup takes about 30 seconds, with no API work:

  1. Go to mcp.togal.ai.
  2. Sign in with your Togal.AI account.
  3. Approve the connection in your AI tool.

Then get the most out of it:

  • Be specific. Name the project, measurement type, colors, and folder structure. A vague prompt gets a literal result.
  • Invite questions. Tell the AI to stop and ask for clarification when it's unsure.
  • Ask it to explain. If it hands you jargon, ask what it means. Pushing through the confusing moments is where the good stuff happens.

TogalMCP: FAQ

Do I need to be a Togal.AI customer?

Yes. TogalMCP signs in through your Togal.AI account, so it only works for current customers.

Is my data secure?

Yes. TogalMCP acts only with the permission you grant. Requests go straight to Togal.AI, the connector keeps no copy of your data, and you re-authenticate every seven days.

Which AI tools work with it?

Any AI tool that supports MCP connections, including Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini. We haven't confirmed Microsoft Copilot yet, so check with your IT team about a custom connector.

Whose AI tokens does it use?

Yours. TogalMCP runs on your own AI account, and Togal.AI has no access to it.

Can it delete things?

Unfortunately, yes. It can call any action available in Togal.AI, including deleting projects and classifications. In our own testing, a vague delete request removed projects with similar names. Be specific, and set approvals in your AI tool so each action can auto-run, ask first, or be blocked. We recommend requiring approval for anything that writes or deletes.

Do I still need the Togal.AI interface?

Togal.AI and its built-in AI work exactly as before. TogalMCP is an optional way to run the same tools from your AI assistant.

Why not just do takeoff in Claude?

General AI tools are built to do a bit of everything. Togal.AI's proprietary AI models are trained on construction plans and built for accurate quantities. TogalMCP gives you both.
